Mount of the Holy Cross– This high and prominent mountain summit is in the northern Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. The 14,011-foot fourteener is located in the Holy Cross Wilderness of White River National Forest, 6.6 miles west-southwest of the Town of Red Cliff in Eagle County.  This 11.7-mile out-and-back trail can be a wonderful backpacking trip. Leadville–  Famous for being the highest incorporated city in North America at 10,152 feet, so be prepared to adjust to the altitude if you’re coming from sea level. In its heyday, it saloons, dance halls, and brothels were abundant. Leadville also has a history of mining from the Gold Rush era, which you can still see vestiges of around town.

Maroon Bells– The most photographed mountains in North America, 10 miles outside of Aspen. Because the natural landmark is so popular, there is limited access to the area during the summer and fall, and reservations are required to visit the Maroon Bells Scenic Area by car or shuttle.

Hanging Lake – Perched high in the mountains, this trail takes you along Dead Horse Creek and through the rocky Glenwood Canyon. Has become a very popular, but worthwhile hike and you will need to purchase a permit.  Visit the city of Glenwood Springs’ website before making the trek.  Also, if you are heading into Glenwood Springs, check out Iron Mountain Hot Springs or the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool.  You won’t be disappointed!
